Description:
Esther’s Place is a rather accommodating waterfront apartment in Napier, in sunny Hawke’s Bay on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
Esther’s Place is located in a modern apartment block in Ahuriri, an historic fishing port in Napier. The apartment is on the top floor of the block, has a large balcony and overlooks a beautiful estuary which is part of an important wetland reserve. The apartment faces north (that’s the same as facing south if you live in the northern hemisphere) meaning it gets all day sun. Views are uninterrupted – inland over the estuary and mountain ranges to the west and over a marina and the Pacific Ocean to the east.

About the Property:
The interior of the apartment was styled by Esther Diamond Limited, Eon Design Centre and artist Martin Poppelwell.
Esther’s Place has two bedrooms, each with a king-sized bed and its own bathroom. There is also a study with a day bed and a rollaway bed and a portacot is available. The apartment can sleep 6 adults. Esther’s Place is self-catering, although breakfast provisions are provided throughout the stay as well as a bottle of Millar Road Sauvignon Blanc on arrival. There is a fully-equipped kitchen. Evening meals can be arranged if required, but given the proximity to good restaurants and artisan food stores, we anticipate most guests self-catering or eating out. Esther’s Place is not managed on-site, so guests do need to call in advance of arrival. The apartment receives a full service every 2-3 days with a tidy up in between.
Esther’s Place is located in Ahuriri, 5 minutes’ drive from Napier Airport. It overlooks an estuary and wetland reserve which incorporates a beautiful walking track ideal for early morning or late evening walks. It is a short walk (or stumble) to West Quay which contains a number of bars and restaurants, including our favourite Napier establishment Provedore Bar & Restaurant (voted best style and ambience at the Hawke’s Bay Hospitality Awards). And it is only a 5-minute drive into the centre of Napier for shopping and art deco buildings.

Property Location:
FROM NAPIER AIRPORT AND THE NORTH:
From the airport, turn right out of the airport entrance onto State Highway 2 (“SH2”).
From the North, travel south on SH2 towards Napier. Pass Napier Airport on your right just after Bayview township, drive for about 1km and then turn left into Meeanee Quay (still SH2) following signs to Napier City Centre. Follow Meeanee Quay and then Pandora Road over Pandora Bridge, which goes over the Ahuriri Estuary, and turn right into Humber Street.

FROM THE SOUTH:
Travel north on SH2 into Napier. Just as you enter Napier along Marine Parade, turn left into George’s Drive. Drive to the end of George’s Drive, then left into Hyderabad Road just over the railway line. Veer right through the first two roundabouts. At the third roundabout turn left, crossing back over the railway line, into Pandora Road. Humber Street is the second on the left.
Alternative route from Norsewood:
For an interesting alternative route if you are travelling up from south of Hastings, shortly after Norsewood turn off SH2 onto State Highway 50 (“SH50”). This is a beautiful, little-used road that takes you through gently rolling farmland and then through some of Hawke’s Bay best vineyards including the world-famous Gimblett Gravels appellation.
As you get nearer to Napier, you will drive through the towns of Maraekakaho, Fernhill and Omahu. Approximately 6km after Omahu at Napier Golf Course, turn right into Links Road (still SH50) and then turn left onto the Expressway (still SH50). Follow the Expressway until it crosses Ahuriri Estuary and then turn right into Meeanee Quay (SH2) following signs to Napier City Centre. Follow Meeanee Quay and then Pandora Road over Pandora Bridge, which goes back over Ahuriri Estuary, and turn right into Humber Street.
