The rooms have been named in honour of the French explorers (Entrecasteaux, Baudin, Freycinet) who discovered and mapped significant sections of Tasmania's east coast in the early 1800's.

By benefit of it's elevated position Hargate offers Launceston's best views over the city and Tamar Valley and River. Hargate is just 17 minutes drive from Launceston airport and 2 minutes drive or 7 minutes walk from the Launceston CBD. When travelling from Launceston airport follow the main highway into Launceston and turn right at the first set of traffic lights. Follow this road up the hill and turn left at the roundabout into Charles Street. Take the 3rd right into Canning Street. Proceed up Canning Street to the intersection of George Street where Hargate will be prominently visable to your left.
