Teichelmann's Bed & Breakfast Inn is in the heritage area of Hokitika on the west coast of the South Island.

Hokitika has had a colourful and interesting history. Its origin dates back to 1865 when it was a rip-roaring goldfields capital and important river port. Today things are a bit more tranquil and laid back. It is an ideal base for exploring the West Coast as well as an overnight transit stop.

It is a unique area - breathtaking scenery, soaring mountains peaks, awesome glaciers, tranquil lakes and raging rivers, lush rainforest ... all bordered by a magnificent coastline.

The home takes its name from Dr Ebenezer Teichelmann who built the original part of the house as his consulting rooms and residence after being appointed Surgeon General to the Westland District Hospital in 1897.

The house is a heritage property that has been extensively upgraded to include ensuite bathrooms and modern amenities. A separate guest lounge has television, books & magazines and complimentary sherry.

Hokitika's wild romantic beach is worth a visit and spectacular sunsets are a feature. Located in this area is the Worlds largest wheel-barrow. A free entry Glow worm dell is located within the town precincts and is viewable after dark. Flashlights are available for this.
